about

Rosa Canina is a trio of expats from Denmark, the UK, and the US who found each other in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, through an admiration for experimental and heavy instrumental music.
While experimental-leaning Post-Rock is most apparent in their latest album, 'Am I An Amaryllis?', (notably in tracks like 'Foxglove,' 'Amaranth,' and 'Rose'), the album also incorporates elements of Drone ('Catsfoot,' 'Wysteria'), Psychedelic Rock ('Living Stones'), Prog ('Cat O' Nine Tails'), and early Industrial ('Cinquefoil').
Although not a concept album per se, before composing each song, the band took inspiration from the characteristics of a flower or plant as a point of departure, thus considering this collection of songs their 'love letter to flora.'
Throughout the album, Rosa Canina balances dystopian basslines with haunting atmospherics and propulsive noise, while delicate yet provocative arrangements of cello, violins, and chimes drift in and out like passing clouds, creating “a unique character and artistic universe where guitars and drums are lost between noises, drones and abstract matter” (Mesmerized blog).
